World Cup Group D Previews, Tickets & Predictions
We take a look at Group D in the FIFA World Cup and give more information on the teams, tickets and general information for all the games.
France
Reigning World Cup champions, France, go into this year’s tournament with high hopes of retaining their title. One look at their squad and it is easy to see why. Not only are France the current World Cup champions, but they are also the 2020-2021 UEFA Nations League. They defeated Spain in the final of that tournament.
The depth they have is the envy of many nations. Didier Deschamps will fancy his chances of getting out of this group and much of his hopes lie upon the shoulders of Kylian Mbappe. If they don’t make it past the group stage, it would be a massive surprise. The last time there was a surprise of that magnitude was when France failed to make it out of the 2002 group stage after winning the 1998 tournament.
Key Player: Christopher Nkunku is a spectacular footballer, and he has taken some of the responsibility away from Mpbappe. This could be his breakout tournament.
Prediction: 1st
Tunisia
Jalel Kadri took over Tunisia after the African Cup of Nations. His squad face into this tournament with optimism, with many of their players plying their trade in France and thus having familiarity with at least one of their opponents.
This is their second World Cup in a row, having also qualified for the 2018 tournament. They made it to Qatar2022 by winning a final qualifying game against Mali. They have never made it past the group stage, and we somewhat doubt they’ll be able to change it this time around.
Key Player: Wahbi Khazri is viewed as the chief chance maker amongst this side. The Saint-Etienne forward has shown great form for the national team and may view this tournament as his chance to get a big move.
Prediction: 4th.
Denmark
Denmark have successfully qualified for the 2022 World Cup and will be in Group D. The story of this year’s World Cup has to be the return to the playing field of Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest during his team’s defeat to Finland at Euro2020.
The player has since made an incredible comeback and is now lighting up the Premier League with Brentford. His amazing return was recently completed, as the midfielder came back and scored for Denmark.
Kasper Hjulmand’s squad is littered with excellent players and have looked excellent in their warm-up games. They will hold aspirations of going far in this tournament and what a story it would be if they win the tournament.
Key Player: It is difficult to look past Eriksen when choosing a player here. He looks back to his best too.
Prediction: 2nd
Australia
Australia for the final place in this group. Goalkeeper, Mathew Ryan, is their captain and although his chances have been limited for Real Sociedad. The Socceroos aren’t the side they once were, but they should have enough to get beyond UAE and Peru.
Key Player: Ajdin Hrustic has been excellent for Frankfurt this year, as they have had an extended run in Europe. He will be instrumental if his team reach the World Cup.
Prediction: 3rd
